when I put the pen down
there was nothing left to sign
maybe some other day
maybe some other dotted line
don't know if I'll write
something that won't make me wince
but if it feels right
I won't call it coincidence.
this is moving out
this is moving on
that's what it's about
nothing's ever gone
this is down and out
on the up and up
turn the car around
chalk it up to luck
leave the keys when you go
even though they'll change the locks
don't you think that they'd know
there's nothing here but an empty box
even if i wanted to,
couldn't fill it up again
it's done all it's gonna do
I'll remember what it's been
this is moving out
this is moving on
that's what it's about
nothing's ever gone
this is looking out
this is giving up
this is giving in
nothing's ever stuck
initial here, cross all your t's
like how you'd carve your names in a tree
initially your mind will tease
youve come so far, here's the release
this is moving out
this is moving on
that's what it's about
nothing's ever gone
this is looking out
this is giving up
this is giving in
no one's ever stuck

there's dust on your chair
cobwebs on your potted plants
this afternoon air
is stirred by the ceiling fans
it's funny cleaning this room
it's only dirty from lack of use
and maybe I will laugh soon
as soon as I can find a good excuse
an interesting thing
about disentanglement
it leads you to think
about how much the tangle meant
it's funny I couldn't say
if I'm just rusty and I don't know how
to go any other way
from pushing dust around this sunny house
and maybe my head
and maybe my open hands
and everything that I've said
can all get caught up in a change of plans
but it's the funniest thing
part of me thinks that it might be true
that like the dust on your chair
my rust is only here from lack of use

Perhaps Hand Baltimore, Maryland
Taking its name from an ee cummings poem, Perhaps Hand is the songwriting project of Austin Tally, formerly of the Baltimore band Wing Dam. Sometimes it is a 3-piece band, but usually it is just him. The majority of PH releases are self-recorded, with Austin playing and tracking all instruments. ... more
