Familiar
03:19
|
|||
if i spent the night
i think i might
begin to get attached
and if i do
get hooked on you
would that even be so bad?
i don't believe
that you'd be bad for me
easy to see why i'm smiling when i'm with you
i'm not familiar with things working out, doo doo doo
if you put my name
into your phone
would it make it something real
though i've already
been back home
and we've already sealed the deal
we'll call it what-
-ever the fuck we want
easy to see why i'm smiling when i'm with you
i'm not familiar with things working out, doo doo doo
sometimes i pinch myself just to be sure that it's true
i'm not familiar with things working out, doo doo doo

Green Shadows
03:31
|
|||
i am remembering something that i once knew
(these green shadows)
how can a thing so familiar feel so new
(these green shadows)
it's not the yellow of the sun mixed with something blue
(these green shadows)
you are a stranger to me, just as i am to you
(these green shadows)
springtime will come around
takes time to come around, they say
i'm trying to figure out
just how long i've been away
it's like remembering someone that you've never met
(these green shadows)
but if it's new then you never had time to forget
(these green shadows)
so i am learning it's not as much trying to get
(these green shadows)
as it is leaving a bit more room just to let
(these green shadows)
springtime will come around
takes time to come around, they say
i'm trying to figure out
just how long i've been away

Rescue Medication
03:55
|
|||
it is easier to wait until the night time
then there's less to give me splotches in my sight line
brighter lights won't blind me
and the sun won't find me
start all over in the morning
and the neurologist who saw me through the webcam
he didn't even have a clue, it's like a big scam
the doctor shrugs his shoulders,
might get better when you're older
try these pills out in the meantime
and they won't let me keep a copy of the photo
that they took of my brain, it's the least you think they'd owe you
for the most expensive portrait i have been in
and i just have to take them at their word
and it barely means a thing that i'm insured
and when you're living in a constant state of warning
from the minute that you wake up in the morning
it's harder to be present
everything's a bit less pleasant
when you're on the lookout for the next one
some people keep a lover's picture in a locket
but me, i've got my medication in my pocket
it's just a bit of armor
in the face of harm, or
when my eyes are merely playing tricks on me
and these days i have to keep a different kind of journal
hasn't even been a year but it kinda feels eternal
talk to three experts, you'll get three different opinions
and i just have to take them at their word
and i don't feel the slightest bit assured

Wawa Pizza
04:57
|
|||
it's there on the seat of your car
and losing appeal by the minute
it's good you don't have to go far
and soon you'll be home and can eat it
and he would've been just fine
with a sandwich again, but this time
the two of you drove off into the night
to get wawa pizza
you told me it wasn't that bad
i told you i'd come visit you soon
the joy is mixed in with the sad
the cheese and the peppers and mushrooms
and he would have never known
if you had just stayed at home
but the two of you drove off into the night
to get wawa pizza
and when you've done all of the things
and when you've done all of the cooking
and when you've seen all that you've seen
you still find a way to keep looking
the first anniversary's paper
the fiftieth is gold
and what do you get at seventy one,
you get wawa pizza
you're reeling in the years
between you a hundred and eighty
and maybe there's nothing to fear
with all that behind you, but lately
he doesn't even know
what you told him five minutes ago
but he got in the car with you that night
to get wawa pizza
and nothing i've ever known
could cut me to the bone
like imagining you driving into the night
to get wawa pizza
